Book a week challenge

I'm going to try reading a book each week this year. It hadn't occurred to me to do this in time for New Year's, so I'll start part way through January.

Here's the first month.

Week 1 - The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

Interesting read, very 1984 and has lots of women's issues, so much so that I struggle to picture a man reading it.

Week 2 - Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren.

The strongest girl in the whole world. I found it surprising that the language was very simple and plain, such a fantastical girl surely deserves a fantastical description but everything is left to the kids' imagination. I really had to engage mine in order to enjoy it.

Week 3 - The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal.

This is something I would not have picked myself but a friend lent it to me. There isn't much of a story but it is interesting to see what people's lives and social interactions were like in the late 1800s, early 1900s. There are plenty of famous names (artists/painters/politicians) mentioned in this book.

Week 4 - Karlsson on the Roof  by Astrid Lindgren.

This is a Russian favourite. A couple of the stories/chapters were turned into animated cartoons in the 1968 and 1970 which led to the increase of popularity of Karlsson in Russia. I was under the impression that more stories had been turned into cartoons but while reading the book I've figured out that I must have just imagined that while mum was reading the book to me.

In the Russian interpretation, Karlsson is a happy mischievous character, but in the original, he is a bit more irresponsible and unconcerned with the effects his actions have on others.

We've decided to put some pictures up in the hallway, this one is my favourite (after the pictures of Plussy of course)/

I've got some totem Doppelgänger for my birthday last week. I now have a white and pink corner on my desk at home.

Washing dishes has never been so fun. Happy kitty friends <3 p="">

Until next time~ *nyahaha*

A cold and rainy day.

It feels like summer is over. I hope it's just me being a pessimist.
I've got some hot chocolate, a book and a snuggly duvet. So much for going outside.

I've still got my mouse cup for Korea ^^;;
I mainly use it for milk/youghurt for breakfast.
Smiley faces are nice in the morning.
